User experience (UX) design and design systems

User experience design helps create interfaces and services that are based on real user needs, both on screen and beyond it.

The work usually starts with mapping user journeys, shaping possible solutions and testing them early. This reduces the risk of building in the wrong direction and helps ensure that the final solution is clear, logical and aligned with your business goals.

A strong user experience also needs to be measured. Usability measurement shows whether people can complete key actions smoothly or whether they get stuck along the way. These insights give you a clear basis for deciding what to improve and for understanding whether changes have genuinely made the experience better.

A design system brings UI design and development together into one clear, shared framework. Instead of designing each screen separately, the interface is built as a consistent system of components, typography, patterns and brand principles. This helps the solution stay coherent as it grows.

To make the design system practical, it is also brought into code. This means it does not remain just documentation, but becomes a usable foundation for development teams. New features can be built faster, while the brand experience and user experience remain consistent and easier to manage.

Together with SEB’s designers, we created a product that helps both new and experienced investors easily understand investment options, make purchases, manage their portfolio and sell ETFs.

The work included mapping the expectations and pain points of users across the Baltics, reviewing competitors, analysing existing business processes and shaping the future process. We also created and tested the UX prototype, designed the UI and supported the development of the marketing concept.

We aligned user journeys across different services to make the app more intuitive and bring several services into one place. The renewed app lets users quickly start refuelling or pay in store, while also tracking electricity consumption and accessing other Alexela services.

The work included mapping customer and business expectations and pain points, reviewing competitors, exploring solution ideas, defining the future strategy and MVP, creating and testing the UX prototype, building a set of design components and designing the UI.

We continuously improve the design of Telia TV platforms, including the TV screen, web and app, to keep the service competitive and offer Telia TV customers the best possible media experience.

As part of our ongoing cooperation with the Telia team, we carry out regular qualitative and quantitative user research to understand customers’ needs, goals, behaviours and barriers when using the service. We explore trends, review industry research and analyse competitors. We also develop ideas, create concepts and prototypes, run co-design workshops and test solution drafts with real users, so the most suitable version reaches development.

In addition to its main website, the European Environment Agency has several thematic information and data platforms. Their content needs to be clear and understandable for both the general public and researchers. Our goal has been to test the usability, content, design and accessibility of these platforms, and provide recommendations for improvement.

We carried out user testing and quantitative navigation tests to identify users’ habits, pain points and expectations. We also prototyped solution proposals and conducted an accessibility audit.

In developing the Labour Inspectorate’s self-service portal, the aim was to make the system as intuitive and convenient as possible for employers, while supporting paper-free communication. The solution helps reduce the administrative workload for both employers and the service provider. This also matches the official purpose of TEIS, which is to streamline communication between the Labour Inspectorate and employers and reduce the administrative burden on companies. 

Over the years, we have developed modules for occupational accident reporting, occupational health, reporting the employment of minors, the salary mirror and other services.

Throughout the development process, we paid close attention to agile working methods, user-centred design and the long-term development roadmap. We carried out user research with both portal end users and service providers, analysed requirements, prototyped user views, and developed and tested the final solutions.
